OK, so it’s not the calendar new year, but today was the Solstice, which begins a “new year” for me.
Even though we have little to no funds at this time, we still wanted to get out and do something to “celebrate”. So, trying to be frugal, and having a rumbling in our tummies, we went to a spot that has yet to fail us: Costco! OK, I know Costco is not the first place most people think of when they think of getting a meal, unless you are thinking groceries. However, what most forget, until you are actually there, is that Costco is an awesome place to score scads of free samples! Some days are more than others. I know Sunday is one of the biggest “samples” day. But, even on a Tuesday afternoon, Costco did not disappoint us. We snacked our way through a cookies assortment, various cheese and meats, some soups, breads, and even a particularly memorable offering of Kirkland Raspberry Chipotle sauce. (Mental note: MUST get some of that!! BBQs, roasts, with cream cheese and crackers…endless possibilities swimming in my head!)
We also got to browse through the store, play on the computers, dink with the cameras (with me practically drooling over the Nikon D5000 that was on display!), and get a fabulous massage and foot rub from some new products they had set up.
After an hour or so of browsing and snacking, we got to have their “real” meal up front at the Food Court. Today we opted to “splurge” for 2 slices of pizza and sharing a hot mocha. Total cost, plus tax was only $5.39. Not our cheapest outing (we sometimes just share a $1.50 hot dog & drink combo), but really not too bad. We love you Costco!
Now, I think I’ll head over to one more sitting at that massage chair setup. It does have heat, too, after all. Who could pass that up?
